Aker Brygge
Aker Brygge is a central business district located right by the Oslo Fjord. With a source of energy from the sea so close up, a seawater pump ensures that Aker Brygge can utilize local energy for cooling and heating the offices.
Seawater is collected from a depth of 20 meters, where it maintains a steady temperature of about 7 degrees all year. The cold sea water cools pure water in the cooling system by passing through a large sea water heat exchanger. The cold water is used to cool the air in offices that have cooling needs. The water then returns to the power central at a slightly higher temperature and is sent into the heat pump. A heat pump refines the energy in the water and raises the temperature of the water to about 60 degrees. We get 3 times as much heat as electricity added to drive the process. The water in the heating system heats the buildings that need it. In addition to the energy from the heat pump, some district heating is added on the coldest days of the year.
