Modern Building with Sustainable Materials
The name Tingvalla, however, dates back to the 1800s, when Danish route ships from the Tingvalla Steamship Company docked here.
Tingvalla is made of sustainable wood and glass, shaped like a wave flowing down the pier. Even at the design stage, the sculptural building was referred to as Oslo's new landmark. Its undulating form addresses all directions of the sea, and the large glass doors on all sides ensure a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors. This gives tenants a high degree of flexibility and usage possibilities, while guests experience an unparalleled closeness to the sea.
The building's core gathers all service functions in one place. Here, you'll find the kitchen, storage rooms, office, and restrooms. Despite the building’s size, these functions occupy only a small part of the ground floor, allowing for large, airy rooms in the rest of the space. Traveling to Tingvalla is also easy; Aker Brygge, with its central location within walking distance of Nationaltheatret, is a great starting point for all kinds of public transport.
Although Tingvalla houses some of the city's finest restaurants, the building is designed to maintain its connection to the city life outside. The pier, with its various platforms, invites the public to use the area and its surroundings, adding extra vitality to an already vibrant building.
